even with the burner turned as low as possible.. the flame is about 1 inch and yellowish orange.. thus making it impossible to simmer anything and also leave a black sutty mess on the pan. What can I do to correct this.. is burner bringing in too much oxygen? Do I need a new valve for the burner? Anyone ever experience this themselves?

  1. Don't start plugging burner holes.  That is not where the problem is.  There is not enough oxygen for complete combustion and air is supplied by the air mixture o*****e under the burner.  Check the o*****e  for obstructions, or, some of them are adjustable and the adjustment may have slipped.  Sometimes spiders or other insects will nest in the o*****e or pipe and restrict air flow.  You can usually remove the burner and stub pipe and look inside for any obstructions.

  2. What sounds like is happening is there are too many holes in the burner itself. A yellow flame indicates a lack of oxygen or in this case a too big of a opening.

The solution is to plug some of the holes in the burner which could probably be done using a metal coat hanger and a pair of side cutter pliers. Just jab the hanger in the holes and trim off. Experiment by starting with say six holes plugged and continue until you get the desired flame.

  3. yea go with hundu that's what wrong i would think, don't plug any burner holes
