The siege of Jericho and the Heliocentric System.?

Do you think that had God caused the Earth to stand still rather than the sun it would have shown an understanding of the real motion of the earth as opposed to the apparent motion of the sun. Would not the display of such knowledge have proved a helpful indicator of the truth of the word of God?

  1. "the truth of the word of God?" you say

Why do you call the TRUTH, "religious bias c**p?"

Because that's what it is, the TRUTH

    Deist. No religion

    Note:

gary 7 infiltrator: the sun DOES move. It orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy. It just takes about 200 million years to make one orbit.

  2. when I make an observation of an astronomical event I stand still. Even astronomers align their telescope with respect to the earth, allowing the "Heavens" to move and in effect rendering them/their telescope's/The Earth stationary . It makes the maths A LOT easier. to do anything useful you need a fixed point from which to measure/push. eg   It's much easier to directly measure the speed/direction of something, say a vehicle from a fixed point, than it is from  another moving car You can do from a moving vehicle, but then you get it's relative velocity to you. You still need to figure out your speed, to get an absolute speed, and this needs the fixed point again....

it by measuring your speed, and then measuring relative speed (of the other object) but that's lots more work.

Taking a more religious line, and getting around to answering your question, the "most important thing" is usually DECLARED to be a stationary reference, around which everything else moves. Doesn't really matter if it is in fact moving, just so long as everyone involved knows it is to be treated AS IF not moving. Today's celestial physics sees size/mass as being most important, hence the larger something is, the less likely it is too move (again it makes the maths easier, but is only more correct in the sense that this approach provides the same result, but by a far simpler method). If the Sun moves and the Earth is stationary the Earth is seen as being most important.

Maybe it's Joshua found it helpful to demonstrate this....

When you consider the importance of "Sun Gods" (and possible origin of the Biblical God as one) it makes for the interesting thought, that if the most important thing is stationary, why wasn't the sun considered to be stationary. Stopping the Sun implies the Biblical God wasn't a "Sun" God, but may suggest he was Earth God. I think this approach also gives an insight into the nature of the ritual that was performed to make the walls fall down.Perhaps it caused the Earth to yield to their wishes, and the Earth then refused to support the walls

    ----

It's similar to early medieval "perspective"/proportion eg in the Bayeux tapestry, the more important things are given bigger icons, and the multitude of lesser things within the scene "revolve" around the big thing. he drawings of young children do it to. It's only

  3. Trepsis old mate? What the f*** are you on about? Have you been sniffing glue again?

  4. The Earth didn't stand still either. For it to do so would have caused catastrophic earthquakes and tsunamis that would have destroyed what little civilization there was back then. I give you an E for effort, but an F for not thinking.

  5. Of course it wont happen but if it did first the earth would fall into the sun and the sun would not stand still as it is moving all the time going round the centre of our galaxy, the milky way, and that is also moving outwards from the point of the big bang (if that is what happened) along with the other galaxies.

  6. Seeing as he created everything his way will always be best.

  7. Isn't it more miraculous that God caused the sun to stop moving, since the...sun...doesn't move...

    wait.

    God's a goofball, isn't he?

  8. It would have been a helpful indicator for us in this century.  Wouldn't have been so helpful to people in all the other millenia who tried to understand it though.  As it is, they could understand it, and we can understand it, and we have enough helpful indicators of the truth of the word of God as it is.

  9. its enough that He makes it shine every day so we dont freeze!!!!!!!!!

  10. OK, you are getting your facts mixed up.  The defeat of Jericho is in Joshua 6, with no sun standing still.  The defeat of the Amorites is in Joshua 10.  The sun standing still is a statement of appearance.  We do not know how God made the sun to stand still.

Don't worry, louie will criticize the Bible no matter what, he stands for the typical prejudiced and intolerant atheists who could care less about truth.

  11. The Jerico myth is one of the worst offenders in the Old Testament. So, 'god' stopped the movement of the sun in the heavens and then told his scribes to write it that way. Right. Now, as for the reality. The earth is a rotating oblate spheriod that contains an incredible amount of kinetic energy. Remember, the equator of the planet is moving at more than 1,000 mph. Stopping the rotation of the planet means dealing with the kinetic energy. When something is moving and it gets stopped, the kinetic energy converts to heat. Instantly stopping the rotation of planet earth would result in the crust of the earth becoming molten. Every living thing on the planet would be vaporized.
