The sitting volleyball coaching clinic starts this weekend – Volleyball Canada
The Canadian Paralympic Committee recently offered a helping hand to Volleyball Canada in running its Sitting Volleyball First Contact Coaching Program. The financial support is likely to play a big role in the development of sitting volleyball in Canada.
In this connection, the initial focus has been put on the Coaching Clinics. The main objective of the program is capacity building and participation of more and more coaches.
The National Team Coach staff will tour all over the country during 2011 and 2012, in order to impart their knowledge of the sitting volleyball. The club coaches in various cities will be offered trainings and necessary support to improve their skills. The
program will touch on several Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) stages.

The process will begin with the first clinic on Saturday, December 17, at the Sport Community Centre in Montreal, Quebec. The program will start Sunday morning. All participants at the clinic will be given coaching instructions. Entry is free for all participants
as Volleyball Canada encourages people to take part.
The volleyball clinic will be divided into different modules. In the first session, awareness about the fundamentals will be taught. The next session will feature overall sport skills and the introduction of certain volleyball skills. Third session will
focus on development of physical capacities. Finally, the session will conclude with training to compete and win.
The training sessions at the clinic will enable participating clubs to follow through with regular sitting volleyball programming and with peer-to-peer education. Quite a few training centres in Canada have already started the process of enhancing the programming.
The new trained coaches will return to their respective programs and will provide them with further assistance. They will implement the regular sitting volleyball within their clubs. Furthermore, they will identify aspiring individuals to become ‘champions’
of sitting volleyball development.
In the next run, a similar activity will be conducted in Winnipeg, MB, Calgary/ Edmonton, AB, and Vancouver, BC. The second coaching clinic will take place in January, while the next two will be following in February and March.
