The sizzling 2011 grid getting ready with five world champions (part 3)
To bag the third championship of his career, Fernando Alonso only needed to finish the last round at the Yas Marina Circuit at fourth place but he was not seen anywhere above seventh. It is commonly believed that a poor race strategy of the team, for making
the driver pit during the early laps of the race cost the team drivers’ championship.
After having bagged a 1-2 finish at the first race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, Ferrari saw a lulled period until the mid season. Only at the German Grand Prix the team was able to show its presence on the track. Although followed by huge condemnation
and disapproval for following team orders, Ferrari’s second 1-2 finish of the season brought the driver back to the tug of the title with a loud roar. Following the race, Alonso was quick to keep bagging points at one after the other race and his journey from
the initial fifth place in the charts soon took him to the top of the points’ tally as Webber and Hamilton, the prior toppers, slipped down.
Alonso’s victory in Germany was followed by a glorious second place finish in Hungary giving the driver reasonable points to enter in the battle forefront. Latter his third victory of the season at the Italian Grand Prix, brought the driver forward as the
strongest title claimer of the season. Another victory came his way at the Singapore Grand Prix, as Vettel ended at second while Webber stood third on the podium. The 2-time world champion’s fifth victory of the season that took him very close to his third
title was embraced by him at the rainy track of Korea. However, as the season ended the young German lad, Sebastian Vettel blew away all his hopes, taking the title off his hands.
Now, the next season is expected to see two Germans stand head to head, both champions, both have won their first championship after third complete season in the sport, and both are very skilful racers, Vettel and Schumacher. Still, the two stand poles apart
from each other, Schumacher being one of the oldest racers on the track has almost come to an end of his career while on the other hand, Vettel, the youngest champion ever in the sports’ history has just begun and yet has a long way to go. But whatsoever,
a tough battle is expected to begin next season between the two, on the 2011 grid.
The 7-time world champion entered the 2010 season after a period of three years, as he announced his retirement earlier in 2007. Although the racing icon entered the 2010 season with Mercedes GP, the team that was successful in bagging both the drivers’
as well as the constructors’ championship of last season, under the title of Brawn GP. However, since the beginning of the season neither the team was able to provide him with a very competitive car nor was he able to get the best out of what he was handed.
After having embraced a large number of very poor and disappointing races, finally the racer netted sixth place at the Korean Grand prix and at the Brazilian round he wrapped up at 4th, giving his best performance of the season.
The driver has not been able to win any races all through the season, nor has he taken any podiums yet. Still, he is adamant to stay in the sport and prove his mettle once again next season. Although, many believe that the living legend has made a mistake
for returning to the sport and that staying for another season will further destroy his legacy yet the driver as well as his team firmly believes that the wonders of the old Schumacher will be seen once again on the 2011 grid.
