He dreamt of ending his illustrious playing career quietly at current club Vasco Da Gama. However, at the age of 37, former Brazil international, Juninho Pernambucano might be forced to hang up his boots faster than expected.
Last night, the Brazilian media announced that the former Lyon star faces a heavy suspension by the Brazilian football association after he failed to go to a doping control test in a league game against Ponte Preta on September 23 earlier this year.
This morning, it was eventually confirmed that the 37-year-old has been handed a two-year ban by the Brazilian football governing body. The decision made the Brazilian sports tribunal is indeed a huge blow for the veteran midfielder who should have known
better than going AWOL on a routine doping test.
Indeed, after playing football at the highest level since 1992, Juninho should not have jested with such an important routine check-up.
Under contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vasco-da-Gama-c40872 until December 2013, Juninho might consider retiring from the game as early as this October.
If this is the case, it would be a really sad end to a career that saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858. Upon his return to Brazilian football, ‘Juni’ did manage a good comeback as he helped Vasco win the Brazilian cup
and helped them finish second in the 2011 Brasileirao.
This season, the former Lyon man scored seven goals in 24 games which is indeed a great achievement for a player of his age.
During his time with Olympique Lyonnais, Juninho got a lot of success. The midfielder was the part of that great Lyon side which constantly kept winning the Ligue 1 Championelle from 2002 to 2008. Along with the Championnat, the Brazilian who is considered
as one of the best free-kick specialists in the world won the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 once and the Trophee des Champions on six occasions.
It does not rain, it pours for Juninho and it might be the right time for him to draw curtains on an amazing career whose end is somewhat upsetting for all those who love the game.
