Question:

The smell of roasted BBQ chicken makes you queasy?

Just bought some roasted BBQ chicken from the store, and started dismembering it to put it in ziplock bags. I noticed when I was taking it apart that the BBQ smell got me slightly queasy. But the smell got worse whenever I open the refrigerator door.

Anyone with similar experiences? Does it mean that the chicken is bad or just the sauce they put was too much? Someone suggested that the vinegar in the sauce might be doing the trick. Anyone with similar experiences?

Just for the record, it's not a smell of bad meat. It's more like a "heavy" saucy smell.

  1. the chicken is prly bad. every time i eat chicken that i didnt cook myself i thro up

  2. Never had it happen.  Could you be pregnant?   LOL...........ah, ok, maybe it is simply a smell that does not agree with you.  I get queasy if I smell Liver and Onions.

ON a more serious note:  Are you sure its not the plastic baggies?  Seriously.  I cannot by the off-brand ones, they stink.  And that "smell" leeches into anything I put in them

  3. Most of those Chickens are sprayed down with liquid smoke and just plain baked. Then covered in a poor impersonation of BBQ Sauce.

Buy the frozen Chicken wings or Nuggets in the freezer dept with sauce on them. Not as good as fresh made at home, but better than those fake BBQ Chickens.

    Good Luck.

  4. maybe your pregnant?

  5. Well unlike the other answerers who suggest your pregnant I how ever just think your more sensetive to that scent. So what I would do is take your portions, wrap in plastic wrap then in ziplock bags. This might help reduce some of the smell. Then stick a box of Baking Soda in your fridge it will help but wont completly remove it. I have some strong scent triggers too, one of mine is mequite smoke or essance I get sick to my stomach and get an instant headache. Same goes for perfumes/ colognes I react the same way.

If the scent doesnt go away when you have tried these few tricks and your still feeling off, you might just need to wash the meat to remove the scent. And if you do to get rid of the smell all together in the kitchen and you have a gargabe disposal send some citrus rinds down the drain, you get an instant air freshener when you do and it cleans it as well.

    Good luck

  6. No, never noticed that...could you rinse off the sauce from the chicken pieces, since there appears to be too much?
