It smells like vinegar. Is that normal? Or is there something wrong with it?

  1. tequila generally doesn't go "bad", but it also isn't supposed to smell like vinegar.

However, Cuervo Gold is not 100 percent agave, it's about 51 percent  and the remaining ingredients are grain alcohols and corn sweeteners, which could, theoretically, turn bad.

For those reasons, and also for flavor reasons and not liking the hangovers associated with non-100 percent  agave tequilas, I recommend only drinking ones that say 100 percent  agave on the label.

Cuervo, for instance, only makes 2 tequilas (not counting 1800 which doesn't actually say Cuervo on it) that are 100 percent : their Tradicional and the Reserva de la Familia.  The regular, gold and black are all non-100 percent  (often called mixto or joven).

Whether it's truly bad or not (why take a chance) toss the Cuervo and get some good tequila.
