  1. yup... it can die

  2. The soft spot is where the cranium is still growing together to enclose the brain...and the protection of a hard shell which prevents damage by sharp objects etc.

If it never fills in, it is a risk worthy of discussing it with your pediatrician.

  3. yes it is a sign of mental retardation, but it doesnt fill in untill the child is 18 months old

  4. it will definitly fill in as they grow.

  5. I've never heard in real life of this problem but if it doesn't fill in then that could mean that the skull is not hardening or growing as it should and that could mean a problem but doctor's usually check with every checkup so you shouldn't worry too much....

    First baby I take it.

    Good luck.

  6. Never? Looking at the answers you got already is enough to panic anyone. Relax - take a deep breath. The soft spot is normal. It's where the three bones making up the skull fuse together as we grow to adulthood. If your baby is a baby, then it probably hasn't had time to fuse yet. But you need to ask the pediatrician at the baby's next check-up. If you are the least bit worried, call now and ask about it. They have lots of experience and can tell you how normal your baby's progress is.

  7. Hi Im not sure what you really mean as all soft spots join up and fill in eventually. If you have a child and fontanelle (soft spot) is sunken in it is a sign of dehydration...give them plenty of fluid...water...

  8. it will fill in as baby grows good luck

  9. The anterior fontanel is the correct term for this. It usually closes somewhere between 9mth to 18mth of age. It can be still open after 18 mth, but not common. You did not say how old your child was. It allows for brain growth during those important first year.

  10. Yes, the baby can be hurt badly or die.  Even we still have the soft spot except ours is mostly filled in.

  11. The chances of the cranium not fusing together are very minimal, although nothing's impossible.

You would just have to be very careful with their head.

  12. well if it stays the same size then there is, but if it shrinks then it's fine, coz if you feel the back of your own head everyone still has one =]

  13. meningitis go to a hospital like now. get off internet and get your butt to a hospital. NOW!!!!

  14.    Eventually it will fill in. It does take some time sometimes. It's there because they're heads need room to grow. If they're head was completely closed and hard the head couldn't grow. Don't worry about it, but if it really bothers you have the doctor look at it.
