The solar storms how is found? it is affected earth only or other plants?

We have telescopes and other technology constantly pointed at the sun so that is how the solar storms and flares are detected.  Solar storms that send ionized electromagnetic radiation can greatly effect the power grid as well as other things on Earth so they are monitored very closely so we have warning.  The solar storms do hit other planets and affects them differently because as we know Earth is unique and what goes on here doesnt go on everywhere else.  I doubt much research has been done into how solar storms affect other planets solely on the purpose that it would be a difficult thing to study
