The son of Empire Maker, Soaring Empire retired at the age of 5
The son of Empire Maker, Soaring Empire, has been retired from racing at the age of 5 - after his last race, being the Grade 1 Donn Handicap on 11 February, 2012, at about 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park, where he finished a dismal 11th to winner,
Hymn Book.
Stud plans for Soaring Empire are still pending. The Cam M. Gambolati trained horse raced under the banner of Ol Memorial Stable and C.E. Glasscock, and as a juvenile, he started his career at Monmouth Park, and from there to Churchill Downs only to finish
third in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes.
In 2010, when Soaring Empire tuned 3, he kicked off the season in fine style by capturing an allowance race over a distance of seven furlongs, and from there straight to the Grade 1 Florida Derby, where he finished eighth.
Fourth and third in the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park and Grade 3 Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park, respectively – Soaring Empire posted his second victory of the season in the Rutgers Stakes at Monmouth Park over six furlongs.
Out of A. P. Indy mare Flying Passage, Soaring Empire at 4, started the season brightly again with the win in the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope Stakes at Gulfstream Park, and then finished second in the Grade 2 GP Sprint Championship and the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park
Handicap.
His only win in the 2011 season after the Hal’s Hope Stakes was the Majestic Light Stakes at Monmouth Park, where over a distance of 1 1/16 miles, Soaring Empire defeated Kensei in second and Cactus Charlie in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and
41.68 seconds.
“He showed so much versatility—running against the best and winning from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles,” Glasscock said about the 5-year-old horse. “He’s a very exciting prospect, being by leading sire Empire Maker, who has been sold to Japan and is no
longer available to American breeders yet continues to exert strong influence over our racing.”
Soaring Empire tried a repeat in the Hal’s Hope Stakes this season, but failed to finish fourth.
