The sons of Tapit, Trappe Shot and Rattlesnake Bridge prepare for their next assignments
The 4-year-old Kiaran McLaughlin trained colt, Trappe Shot, continued preparations for his engagement in the October 1st Grade 1 Vosburgh Invitational at Belmont Park.
The son of Tapit, out of Shopping by Hobeau Farm, Trappe Shot turned in a breeze of four furlongs at Belmont Park on 17 September, 2011, accompanied by stablemate, Rattlesnake Bridge, as the tandem covered the four furlong distance in 49.90 seconds.
Both colts are owned by Nicholas Brady’s Mill House and are the sons of Tapit. Trappe Shot is looking good with 2 wins out of 3 starts this season.
Moreover, Trappe Shot barely missed out on the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap when he rolled in second at Saratoga on 7 August, 2011, at about 6 furlongs, beaten by Sean Avery.
Prior to the Saratoga meet, Trappe Shot ran his first two races at Belmont Park where he was victorious in both.
Kicking off his season in the Waldoboro on 11 May, 2011, Trappe Shot marked it with a win over a distance of 6 furlongs under jockey John Velazquez.
Next up was another 6 furlong dash, but with a Grade 2 status for the taking, Trappe Shot ran in the True North Handicap also at Belmont Park on 11 June, 2011, downing This Ones for Phil and Calibrachoa.
Trainer David Fawkes will most likely send out two runners in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Invitational, Apriority and Big Drama.
The trainer sat astride his dark sprinter, Apriority, as Big Drama breezed 4 furlongs in 48.60 seconds with a solid gallop out at Calder racecourse on 17 September, 2011, and by the looks of things the Volsburgh is next.
On the other hand, the 3-year-old colt, Rattlesnake Bridge, is working toward a start in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby on 24 September, 2011, at Parx Racing.
The son of Tapit won the Long Branch at Monmouth Park’s dirt course over 1 1/16 miles on 9 July, 2011, and then was off to Saratoga to run in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, where he finished behind the winner, Stay Thirsty, over a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
