The sound on my computer is gone and my speakers still work?

if i play a song, i can't hear anything, the speakers arn't been picked up by the computer. I think its something to do with the sound card

Reinstall your sound card drivers, and make sure you haven't muted your audio.

Speakers are never 'picked up' by a computer.

System volume control to see if it got muted?

Sound driver still installed?

Device manager to see if your system recognizes your sound card?

I would go to the  sound/audio devices section in the control panel and check to see if the correct sound card is made default
