The speed camera was wrong,what can i do?

Ive received a letter stating me and my vehicle was flashed speeding,it recorded a speed of 84mph in a 40mph zone,the thing is it was at 11;40pm in a town 25 miles away and i know for sure it wasnt me.I have a new baby which is stressful enough and now i dont know what to do.Can the speed camera be wrong

If it was'nt you driving you will have to give details of who was. Was it at the garage being driven by a mechanic?? If nobody had the car you could claim it must be a cloned car and give proof why it could'nt be yours .Gud luck

You could ask for colabration certificate that what my dad had asked for when he was caught speeding, he went back to driving school and missed points.

Speed cameras are seldom wrong, however there could be a few reason why you have got this letter.

First you need to make sure the letter is legit and not a wind up from a mate. Contact the telephone number that should be shown on the NIP letter.

Second did you lend or was it possible for somebody to have used your car at the time and date that the offence was supposed to have take place?

Thirdly its possible that your number plate has been used by some toe rag who was up to no good.

The key thing to do hear is to ask the police for the photographic evidence, when they produce the photo you will be able to compare your car to the car in the photo.

Unfortunately it is no use going back to the police and saying that you were not the driver until you can offer an alternative driver or car.

TAKE APHOTO OF YOUR CAR BACK AND FRONT SEND IT TO THE TICKET OFFICE ASK THEM TO COMPARE FOR ALL YOU KNOW THE CLONED CAR MAY BE A DIFFERENT COLOUR. THE POLICE WIL EXAMINE BOTH SETS OF PHOTOS AND THEY ARE TRAINED TO SPOT THE DIFFERENCES  IF YOU ARE RIGHT YOU WILL BE IN THE CLEAR

Take your car the letter and your driving docs to your local police station, Also take a camera with you preferably a disposable one.

Show the letter to the police state it wasn't you and get them to take the pictures of your car.  then send the details to the DVLA or take them personally to the LVLO..

Don't sign or hand over anything without a receipt.

If they insist it is your car. ASK for full disclosure for a trial at court. They will need to provide two photos of the car taken going through the speed camera and provide you with details of where the images were obtained.

Take your car to this same location and at a quiet time park the car on the markings and take pictures from under the speed camera to compare with those provided.

Ask the prosecution to provide details of when the camera was last calibrated and the proceedure for the calibration. If it hasn't been recallibrated in the past 6 months then ask them to do so

This is where most police forces slip up as they have to remove the camera and the speed detector and boxthem up seperately and they have to be logged and sent back to the manufacturer, which for the gatso is in italy.. BUT both  parts can't be sent together and have to be sent  seperately.

Your number plate could be on another car. If you have witnesses for the time, you will be fine. If not, ask to see the photo and see if it is the same car as yours. Also, see if the picture is facing the cars front or rear. (This will get a pic of the driver if the picture is facing the front)

first thing - are you sure this is a genuine letter? could someone have got hold of your car & personal details and is trying to scam you? if it is real you have right to appeal if you can prove its not you in the car. either way contact the local police (to the incident) and speak to them , they are human after all and may be able to help.

Usually speed cameras and such are supposed to give you the pictures, at least reduced copies, where they clearly ID'ed your plate, as well as a wide shot that show the entire car.

You have to right to go to that facility and request to view the actual pictures, and perhaps get a copy for your records.

What may have happened is they misread one or more of the digits / letters and came up with yours. If you can prove (like via your registration) that you drive a car of completely different type or different color than the one shown in the picture, then your case will likely be dismissed.

If it IS your car in the picture, then you better have a good explanation.

With a speed of 84mphm and at that time of night, sounds like someone may have cloned your plates - that's if the whole thing isn't a wind up from a friend.  Appeal against this - I'm sure you can get it sorted.  When you say can the speed camera be wrong, it sounds like you think it COULD have been your car.  Surely you know whether you were in that place and at that time??

I got a letter from my insurance company once saying someone had reported that I had been in a collision with their car - 120 miles away from my home (and if you know me, you'll know I only shop in it!!) and at a time when it was behind locked gates on my house drive when I was on hols in Tenerife!!  If it wasn't you, dont admit to it.

your car might have been cloned some one might have taken your car reg in car park and put it on theres but if you have proof that you werent there at that time i would fight it good luck
