The spur of the moment Ivan Rodriguez trade?

Okay, I have always liked Pudge but this was sooooo unlikely. The Detroit Tigers were willing to give him up for Kyle Farnsworth? Thats insane. But i couldnt help feeling bad for Jose Molina. I mean hes a great catcher & he's not too shabby at hitting and now Pudge is gonna steal the spotlight unless they make him DH which i doubt. So what are your views on what will happen with Molina and Pudge

  1. Honestly I'm more concerned about Posada's future if the Yankees decide to keep Pudge next year.

  2. Jose Molina is a backup catcher not a starting catcher, Pudge is a starting catcher and a future hall of famer

  3. I love how everything's always about the Yankees...

No, by no means did Detroit get the better of this deal. Pudge is a surefire HOF catcher - how many catchers are in the Hall? Farnsworth is an also-ran who has never lived up to his potential...I loved the guy when he was young & promising, now he's more than a few years into a mediocre career...and now a Tiger.

I've officially renounced my status as a tiger fan in tiger country. If you want me, I'll be watching the cubs.

Yankee fans should enjoy Pudge as he helps win yet another championship or two...

But to address your underlying question, I would have liked to see Molina get his chance to finish the year as the main backstop - he's certainly comes from the right family to be a successful major league catcher...and you're right, Pudge will steal most of his games, thunder, and ab's...

  4. YEAH your right, THIS IS INSANE! Pudge was my favorite Detroit Tiger player. I'm still in shock!

so, I think Pudge will finish up this season with New York, and next season, when Molina is healthy again. Pudge'll be traded to Florida..to play where he lives...to be closer to his family...

  5. The key is that Pudge asked for this trade. He didn't want to be in Detroit anymore and the Tigers needed bullpen help.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, this trade is extremely lopsided. Kyle Farnsworth is not a good pitcher. He's been on a "hot" streak lately, but he'll go back to missing locations and giving up leads.

The Yankees just lost Jorge Posada, who was a huge bat. Jose Molina is a good defensive catcher, but he can't hit. Pudge can play defense and hit.

Molina was only meant to be a backup catcher. It's unlikely his body could handle the grind of everyday catching. Plus, I think he knows that if he wants a ring, he's got to do what the team asks of him. And that is letting Pudge take over.

  6. This trade benefits all sides.

The tigers need a closer, bad. A closer is just as important as any other part of the game, sometimes more so.

An Molina will still play. He has a been a gret defensive player for the yanks this year... and the fans know it. But the guy is an automatic out at the plate-- and we need an offensive boost at that position.

  7. I think Pudge will stick around for the rest of the year and then be gone- his career is winding down and the Yankees wont hold on to him past this year.  I think they just wanted to bring in someone with a bigger name than Molina.

  8. yankees made a bad trade, ivan is old and washed up and molna is better

  9. I do not see how this helps the Yankees, They do not need another bat.  They are banking on Marte being their set up man, but Farnsworth is pitching amazingly lately.  BTW this is coming from a die hard Red Sox fan.  I actulally feel mor comfortable after the trade then before.
