Question:

The stock stereo in my '02 VW GTI stopped working...

Could this be due to the ridiculous location of the cup holders, which are above the stereo itself? I don't know why they put those retractable cup holders there, the condensation from drinks is obviously going to get inside and short out the stereo. Has anyone had this problem? And what did you do? I'm afraid to spend the money to get an after-market stereo, but I need my tunes!!

  1. check your fuse box, it could be as simple as a blown fuse, les than a dollar to replace

  2. fukngruven

  3. Fuse for the radio is behind the head unit.  Make sure you have the security code, since the fuse is blown, and you will have to set the code to get it up and running.  No, its not the issue of the cup holders, the Germans are well aware we need our drinks, as opposed to taking our driving seriously.

  4. well i have had the same problem happen to me in 2 different cars!  my first car was old and it had and AM radio no fm it worked fine for 3 months after i bought it then it died. and the car i have now which is newer had the same thing happen. the radio was a AM FM Cassette player and it died too. so heres what i had to do against my will: i bought a $50 dollar CD player with am fm radio and it was one of the best things ive done since i no longer need to deal with tapes. since your car is newer it should be fairly easy to remove the old radio and replace it with a new one, of course you can always go to the dealership and get a brand new radio just like you have now but they are so expensive. i hope this helps
