I seen that the movie the strangers is based on true events.

I'm going to see the movie this Sunday and wanted to know where i could find information about the true story of it.

Nope, it is not based on a true story.

According to its production notes,[2] the movie is inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino's childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for a person and he would later find out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been burgled.[3] In interviews, Bertino stated he was "very impressed" with some of the wild theories circulating on the Internet about the "true events" the movie is supposedly based on, but his main inspiration was Helter Skelter, a book about the 1969 Manson family murders he read as a kid.[4][5] In an interview, Liv Tyler revealed that in Bertino's original script "You saw a lot more of the strangers" and "It was much more of a Manson-esque experience."[3]

Quite afew filmmakers market their movies as 'based on true events' (for example Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Blair Witch Project) but that doesn't mean that they actually happened. The events that The Strangers is based on is one of the Charles Manson murders.
