  1. Fremont Experience is much better. It is a lot cleaner than the Strip.  There are plenty of hotels and places to eat right on Fremont.  All casinos give you free drinks as long as you are gambling.  The Plaza hotel on Fremont is very nice and well priced.

  2. strip ... you can find good deals you just have to look ... but be sure to go downtown one night ... the people are more laid back and you can catch the bus at any hour... this from someone that has never ridden a bus, i will do it again and again ...

  3. Stay on the strip. Take advantage of the great room discounts on the Vegas strip. The cost of going back and forth to the strip from downtown will eat up whatever you are saving staying downtown.

  4. if you stay down town, do the nugget. its the best hotel down there..

the strip is fun also.stay at the paris. the set up is cool, not too big..

  5. Fremont Street is billed as "old style vegas". It is very popular with people who care about inexpensive food, cheap rooms, who don't want to walk long distances, and gambling. There is no shopping to speak of, no celebrity chefs, and more homeless and prostitutes hanging around the periphery.

    - The convention center prepared a profile of visitors, and the downtown attracts more people than the strip who bring $400-$1000 as gambling money. The games downtown frequently have a lower house edge. The low rollers are more interested in the attractions on the strip, and the high rollers can gamble anywhere.

    - The Golden Nugget downtown has been a AAA four diamond resort for longer than almost any hotel in the country. It is certainly the only one that you can stay at for $59 midweek.

    ----------------

Fremont St. has seen some revival since so many of the 1950-1960 era hotels on the strip have been imploded. The ten operating casinos in the Fremont Street area have a total of 6824 rooms. In comparison the Venetian-Palazzo convention center complex has over 7000 rooms.

    ----------------

The "Fremont Street Experience" is going to seem excessively tame if you've seen Batman in IMAX.

    ----------------

GoldenNugget & Main Street Station are the two nicest hotels.

The Golden Gate is a mini casino and hotel and is over one hundred years old. The "California", "Fremont" and "Main Street Station" hotels are owned by Boyd corporation. They fly six charter planes per week in from Hawaii, and about 60% of their rooms are rented to Hawaiians on vacation.

The "Plaza" and "Las Vegas Club" are owned by a European company. They are the some of the most inexpensive hotels in the country. Expect your room to look cheap.

  6. The Strip....

  7. Strip.  But do visit the Fremont Street Experience.  While there go to the Golden Gate for one of world famous shrimp cocktails and listen to the piano man.

By asking whether to stay on the Strip or downtown I'm thinking you are on a budget.  So stay at one of the lower priced hotels on the Strip.  Sahara, Riviera, Tropicana, Harrahs, Imperial Palace and be close to all the attractions.  Be sure to see the sights as well as drinking and gambling.

Couple of words of advice.  Go easy on drinking early in the day or you won't make it until the evening.  Also the more you drink, the more carelessly you gamble.  That's why casinos give away free drinks to players.  They want you drunk and stupid.

Have fun and be smart and safe in Vegas.
