how do execute the correct stroke? i now how to play pool i can make out of a set of 10 racks 3 breaks if a break, anyway i never took lessons from anyone i just learned it myself.. i want to know how you execute the correct stroke, the fundamentals are the most important and i want do but some things in order, i guess you have to keep your cue leveled don't move my elbow and always while i stroke don't move the tip on the cue ball, every balance has to have the same spot as a target, not being from the us i'm not familliar with the exact terms, hope i made myself understood, ohh i also would like to ask what's the difference between a run through shot and a "poke" shot, you can still get a backspin effect if you poke or stab the cue ball (is it just the distance between the cueball and the ball your hitting) how much eficient is the run through shot when you want a draw

  1. Fall asleep watching Johnny Archer... :)

  2. main thing is to keep your body and head still until you have totally completed the shot.

hitting the ball at the top of the cue ball makes top

hitting at bottom creates s***w back

if you want more s***w back then losen your grip on the cue a touch.

it really is a practice game. experiment with things

  3. To paraphrase one of my favorite pool authors, George Fels, "A proper pool stroke is so simple that almost nobody can do it."  You say that you've never taken lessons before.  As both an instructor and a student, I would strongly urge you to look into getting lessons from a certified instructor.  I'm not sure what country you are in, as I am mostly familiar with BCA (Billiards Congress of America) methods of instruction.  You have some good ideas about the stroke but you are missing some vital points about why a proper stroke is the way that it is.  I would love to get you in my classroom.  Johnny makes a good suggestion about using videotape.  The tape doesn't lie.  Also, a mirror is a fantastic tool for evaluating your stroke mechanics which is readily available.  I really can't get too detailed in this forum, so I would recommend seeking out a teacher.  The BCA does have a few teachers in Europe.  Check out the website and ask around to find an instructor in you area.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  4. stroke is something that is developed with practice ! look at some of your pros they all have seemingly diff strokes ! luc salvas has a real fast stroke and if you look at someone like johnny archer you may fall asleep ! when u poke the cue ball (or jab) u can get draw yes but to control the cue where u want it to go gets tough ! take a ball set it up 3 in from the side pocket !  find a place on the table and mark it.  knock the ball in the side pocket and try and get close to the spot that u marked ! you will notice that u r more accurate stroking the cue ball then jabbing it ! it is al table speed and precision !!! good luck with you game ! hope to c u on tour

  5. Slow and level lots of follow through  Poke and hope will do but do you want to be a winner or a doer ( is that a word? ) but like they say it a practice thang get a freind to make a vid of your stroke you will see real quick what your weakpoints are

    Later Johnny

  6. Good answers already.

But a "poke" shot is like you Poke someone in the chest with your finger.

    (NOT reccomended)

You would Poke the cue ball in much the same way.

(like Johnny says, don`t know why you`d wanna do that)

A "Run through" I`m guessing is what we call "shooting through the cue ball".

    AKA follow through.

Your cue tip ends up on the other side of where the cue ball was.

A MUST do if you want good draw.

Oh, you can still get backspin poking it (bout an inch and a half (:>
