I would say, Greek civilization time.  Aristotle was the first recorded person to study and classify organisms.

However, if you would believe in the Bible and refer Adam as the first man on Earth, then the answer is c as Adam was given the authority over non-humans.  And this may also entail studying organisms.

It's either C and D.  Depending on your POV.
