The subcontinent should not be deprived of cricket: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syed-Mujtaba-Hussein-Kirmani-c92334 – Cricket News Update
During a personal trip to Karachi, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, former Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Syed Mujtaba Hussein Kirmani took time out to talk to reporters, and expressed the desire to see international cricket return to Pakistan, as well as a revival of cricketing
ties between the two neighbours, Pakistan and India.
“The entire subcontinent is passionate about its cricket and no part should be deprived of it. I really want to see international cricket making a return to Pakistan,” he said, while speaking at the Karachi Press Club during a session organised by the Sports
Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS).
Pakistan has not hosted a series since the terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in Lahore nearly three years ago. With their home ground being declared unsafe, the Men in Green have been hosting home series at neutral venues.
Recent attempts to host http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 have also led to a war of words between the FICA, and the PCB – while Bangladesh have expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements in Pakistan, while FICA is less than convinced, saying the ICC’s agreement to give
the proposed series official endorsement, while declining to provide neutral match officials, points towards a security risk.
In addition to the resurrection of international cricket in Pakistan, the 62-year-old Kirmani also stressed the need for the resumption of bilateral ties between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However,
he was quick to clarify that these were his personal opinions, and he was not in a position to comment on the policies of the BCCI.
The last bilateral series between Pakistan and India last was played when the Men in Green toured their neighbouring country in 2007-2008 for a series of 5 ODIs, which the host team won, 3-2, and a Test series, in which the hosts again emerged victorious.
Owing to the 2008 terrorist attacks in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, deteriorating diplomatic relations had an adverse effect on the sporting ties between the two nations.
While the PCB has repeatedly expressed its eagerness to bring about a revival between the two historic rivals, the BCCI has been reluctant, and cited India’s busy schedule as a reason for their inability to find a slot for a series against Pakistan.
This led the PCB chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 seemed to be afraid of tackling Pakistan on the cricket field. However, Kirmani expressed displeasure at such irresponsible remarks, and advocated a more logical, balanced
attitude.
“Such comments should be avoided. It’s time that both boards sit down together to start a new beginning,” he said.
