  1. Philly suburbs are getting bad. This is largely due to the fact that Philly is a MESS. People who want to have safer families move out- however some bring this city mentality with them and still commit crimes becuase they are taught it is OK.  I am not saying poeple should not move out of the city, I just feel that kids need to be taught right from wrong better than they are being taught today. OR stay out of my little town.

  2. anal?

  3. I'm a geography major and we study this stuff all the time. Because of suburban sprawl people keep moving farther and farther away from the city. Because of this lower income families are now living in the middle/upper income housing of a few decades ago....bringing crime with them. It all boils down to reliance on automobiles and people wanting as much space as possible.

  4. I live in Florida, crime is and always has been everywhere so I wouldn't have seen the difference.  I think you do have a point though if you live in a more normal state.

**Another note:  The 80's is the decade where more mom's have HAD to go to work due to the economic downfall of our country and the children are being raised in chaos (day care centers), that might have something to do with it too.

  5. UK crime is down overall over the last decade, as a total, but worryingly some specific crimes are up (esp those involving knives or guns)

Suburban crime is nothing new. Everyone had their house burgled in the 80s - these days burglary is a rarety. But I put that down to lifestyle changes rather than government policy. A video recorder in 1980 could have cost about £700 - an awful lot of money, and well worth the risk for a burglar. Coin op meters could have contained lots of cash - again an easy target. These days a DVD player costs about £20 brand new, prepayment meters don't take cash. The act of burglary is now a less worthwhile risk than it was 20 or 30 years ago.

  6. Its called Urban Renewal (Poor Removal). When the city is "Gentrified", the people who commit the most violent crimes are displaced, typically to the outerring suburbs. You do the math.

  8. It does seem like there is more crime in the suburbs than there was in the 80s and 90s, but is it from the inner cities as your question implies?  I don't think so.  I believe there are more people in all neighborhoods participating in life styles that include crime.  The suburbs are growing their own.

  9. it has always been there just everone knows it is in the inner city so peeps stopped looing there and decided to look at the crime in the pleasant suburbs of America
