ok.... i am in eighth grade and i am close to graduation. I don't do any sports. People say that i am a great swimmer and that i should join the no-cut team in high school. At overnight camp, i always pass out of the lessons because i am good enough to know everything. At camp, i do lake swim and always end up in 2nd or 1st out of 15 people. I am 14 years old. I have never done any competitive sport and i get really nervous when i do for some reason. Are there any other people like me that will join next year? Are there people who have NO swimming experiance that i will be better than to raise my confidance? (not 2 b mean.) I really want to do this but i have second thoughs because i don't want to be the worst. I HAVE NO OFFICIALY EXPERIANCE other than that i have been swimming all my life, just not competetively. What can i do 2 prepare? can you give me advice??? THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!

  1. do it...i was terrible when i started swimming...my 8th grade year i couldnt even swim one end of the pool to the other without stopping, and this past swim season i was our leading point scorer on my high school swim team, and came close to breaking some records...still got another year to go...you will develop and from the way it sounds, you'll be an amazing swimmer when you get to become a jr/sr...just dont expect to be the best your first year...you wont be the worst, but stick at it, and you'll be fine

  2. well all i can say is try it ou tif you dont like it you can quit

  3. Well, I am in the eighth grade too.14 also.i guess i have had the same experience as you.last summer my best friends were ont he summer swim team.they always told me i was really good at swimming but ive never been that great on being on a team and what-not.i was really scared.but i decided to just try out.i wasnt the best on the team but i didnt suck either.but i found out that i have a passion for it.i didnt have any swimmign experience before that.next year i would liek to join the no-cut swim team also.i know i will not be the fastest but i know that i will not be the worst.all you need to do is tell yourself that you wont be the only new kid on the team and if you are bad at it then most likely the coach will help you and you will improove.

i think you should start training now.starting off you should learn your 4 basic strokes.free, breast, back, and fly.

fly is always the hardest well atleast it was for me.

i would start going to a pool like at a gym or school and swim 3 times a week.

    also work on flip turns.

i will guarantee that this will impress yoru coach next year,

i hope you try-out for the team.i have a feeling you will like it.:]

  4. Why don't you go to a local pool and swim laps.  That will help you alot physically and build your confidence.

  5. I was also in the same position as you. Though I ended up breaking three school records, turned All-American, and now broke a record in college as a freshman. I couldn't break any other school records because another guy got there first (who is currently at olympic time trials, mind you)

You will learn a LOT of things when you go out for actual swimming. In a swimming race, its 90% technique and 10% physical.

You'll have a good time swimming, and just remember to focus on your technique and you'll be good in no time.

What you can do immediately: pull ups, if you know or have a swim bench, use it. Work on shoulders and triceps.

  6. Try joining a summer league team. That will help you figure out what the practices and meets are going to be like which should help you on a mental level. Also having the practice will help you on a physical level.

  7. there really isn't much for you to do. if you really want to train your body and get it in shape, then do some weight lifting or go to the pool and do some laps or JOIN A SWIM TEAM. with a swim coach you will come along much better because somebody is training you and they can easily spot things you have to work on and they know what sets to give you. mentally- just chill out. don't worry about it. it really takes a lot of practice to get better. and it took a while for my confidence to go up too. it comes if you keep swimming.

  8. You're a sucky speller for a 14  year old.
