The symptom is limited range of motion of the shoulder, what could it be?

As the arms are raised from the sides and stretched out as when forming a "T", pain is felt at the onset of the horizontal position. What could be the cause of this pain? The patient claims it was first felt after carrying a heavy load. It does not hurt at all, only when the arms are raised to the horizontal position as mentioned above. Is the pain related to a slight dislocation of the shoulder, tendon or ligament problems, or something else?

  1. This sounds like what's known as an Impingement type of shoulder pain. The problem usually relates to inflammation in one of the rotator cuff tendons or sometimes to inflammation in the bursa around the shoulder. This latter condition is called shoulder bursitis.
