The teams’ tales after the Korean Grand Prix (Part 1)
The Korean Grand Prix held last week at the newly built circuit has been one of the most thrilling and nail-biting races of the season. The entire 2010 season has unfolded in such a surprising and awe-inspiring manner that one after the other race the climax
of the season has kept on increasing. Now, as the calendar is to hold only two more rounds, the thrill and drama of the season continues to mount on.
The construction work at the Korean International Circuit completed only two weeks ahead of the final race day, due to which the newly-laid layer of asphalt made it very slippery. Moreover, the heavy rainfall on Sunday morning added more drama and action
to the already very nerve-tickling race. Lap after lap, the dainty Formula One cars with the most skilled drivers of the world were seen slipping and sliding off the track.
Now as the caravan returned back, after unfolding the seventeenth round of the season in a very exhilarating manner, the brave team men talked to the media expressing their views of the race.
Ferrari
When it comes to lady luck favouring one adamant driver in a set of talent driving aces, it’s no one else but Fernando Alonso.
The Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso had been the luckiest man on the track. The driver saw a silver lining in every dark thick cloud that hovered merciless over the track for the rest of the drivers. He started off the race from third place on the grid however,
the crash of the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber elevated him to second and later the engine failure of the second team driver ascended him to first.
Despite of the role that luck played for him, one cannot ignore the flawless driving he showed all through the race. This round would always be remembered as one of the finest victories of Alonso during his career. This race was a great show not only because
he was able to win but majorly because of the flawless driving that he showed on a tough track that was the slipperiest on the calendar due to the heavy rainfall and also because it was the debut race on the track and drivers were not much aware of its twists
and turns.
As the driver now returned after bagging the fifth victory of the season he was glad to say, "It is a great feeling winning this way, as it was a very difficult victory, given the track conditions. Especially at the start, the situation on track and in terms
of visibility was really precarious. That was the most worrying time, because I knew it would be an achievement just to stay on the track. We had never driven here in the wet and so there was no reference point.”
With this race, the two times world champion had been able to prove once again that he is a fine driver and a great fighter.
Mending ties with the team, the other team driver Felipe Massa was also one of the happiest men of the day. His third place finish has helped him in more than a number of ways. Before heading for the Grand Prix, Ferrari very vividly asked the driver to help
his teammate secure his title battle by stealing as many points as possible from his rivals. Though Massa has announced several times earlier this season that he would not serve as a second driver for the team, yet before leaving for this race he vowed to
earn as many points as he can to assist Alonso and also to sooth his aching relation with the team.
After the brilliant finish Massa was glad to exclaim, "A great result at the end of a very difficult race. I am very pleased, for myself and for the team. Fernando did a great job. After two poor weekends, I am happy to have stepped up onto the podium once
again... We were a bit lucky, but we also did a good job, proving to be competitive even on this track.”
To be continued…
