The teams’ tales after the Korean Grand Prix (Part 2)
The merry Godfather- Stefano Domenicali
It wouldn’t even take a blind to figure out who could be the happiest man on the track after seeing two drivers of the same team finish a race on the podium. Of course, it is Ferraris team principal.
For Stefano Domenicali of Ferrari the day was as good as it could have been. It was more than a dream come true as the team’s leading driver, Fernando Alonso won the race and settled himself at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, while the other team member,
Felipe Massa grabbed 15 points off the rivals by finishing at 3rd place.
Moreover, with this first and third place finish of both the drivers and at the same time as the Red Bull ended pointless and McLaren had one of its drivers finishing out of scores, the Ferrari’s standing in the Constructors’ Championship has been strengthened
now. This has further raised the hopes of the team in the drivers’ as well as in the constructors’ championship further more.
While talking to the media after the race Domenicali said, " This has been a fantastic day, in which we have turned around the situation in the Drivers' championship and also, albeit partially, put us back in a stronger position in the Constructors' classification.”
However, he admitted that the hardest part of the battle has just begun. He thanked the entire team as well as both the team drivers for living by his dream and encouraged them to keep on fighting with the same spirits and determination.
Force India
The unhappy man - Adrian Sutil
The man demonstrated both, little luck and poor driving at the Korean Grand Prix. After having started the race behind the safety car he tried to do his best to make a pit stop early and then continue the entire race with the intermediate tyres. However,
things did not turn out the way he thought. He kept slipping and sliding every now and then and finally he made the fatal mistake for his race.
With brakes that he reported were already troubling him, knowing that he was slipping off the track time and again and above all being on a track that was the slipperiest of the season, he made a poor over taking move at Kamui Kobayashi. With this he lost
control of his car and went too wide off the track, ending his race point less.
Now as he recalls the events of the day he openly admitted, “I'm not happy with my performance, it was not a good race for me personally, but I'm pleased that the team did well with Tonio and the sixth position.”
Pretty number 6 - Tonio Liuzzi
On the other hand, the second team driver did exceedingly well than what was expected from him as he wrapped up the day at 6th place despite of the tough track conditions.
Liuzzi looks back at the day calling it a ‘crazy race’ which he has enjoyed a lot, although it was quite demanding. He added that the race somewhat reminded him of the Australian Grand Prix held at the start of the season, though this one was definitely
the tougher version.
The Italian gladly stated, “After all the bad luck we've had in this part of the year it's brilliant to be back in business and up there in the points again, extending our advantage over Williams and setting ourselves up well for the last two races."
The race initially got delayed due to the heavy rainfall and a lot of water on the track. However, when it started the teams had to do a lot of laps behind the safety car. Liuzzi exclaimed that the slippery track demanded hard braking. However, he believes
that despite of all the odds of the day he was happy for the way the race ended for him.
To be continued…
