The teams’ tales after the Korean Grand Prix (Part 7)
Red Bull
The 17th and 3rd last round of the season, the Korean Grand Prix while brought a lot of thrill and action for the race lovers, and pleasure and delight for some of the teams like Ferrari, it served others with despair and disappointment.
Red Bull stands at the top of the list when one talks about embracing ill-fate at the newly-built, tough and slippery track of Korea.
The Korean Grand Prix marked a day for the team that they would never be able to forget.
The hero turned zero - Sebastian Vettel
While talking about the German after the three practice sessions and the qualifying one could have very easily said that, ‘the track proves lucky for the chap’. Vettel was fast and much focused during the practices and finally at the qualifying he did brilliantly
well as he secured a pole position, which marked his ninth pole this season.
As the cars came out on the track after the heavy rainfall on Sunday morning, the driver was quick once again. After having started the race from the forefront, he kept on moving ahead of the rally all through the race and by the time he reached the 45th
lap, his victory was almost certain. However, only then ill-fate struck the driver hard, he suddenly slowed down, to let the Fernando Alonso pass by him in his Ferrari. Another few moments went by and the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton also over took, leaving
him at third place now. With a jerk the driver stopped, revealing a broken engine which ended his race.
"This is not a nice moment, but I think it was a difficult race for all of us today. To be at the front of the field for the whole race, controlling it and looking after the tyres, I think there's nothing more we could have done. All in all we did an almost
perfect job today and also yesterday in qualifying,” the driver told in the post-race press conference.
He further added, “We have a very strong team and a strong car and we know we are the quickest. I can go to sleep tonight knowing I did everything I could today and we still have everything to play for."
Slipping down the track and the points’ tally - Mark Webber
There had been several predictions and expectations regarding the Korean Grand Prix but hardly anybody could have thought of this ending for the Austrian team. After having started the race from 1st and 2nd places on the grid, possessing
the fastest car of the season and both the drivers being in great form one only fancied to see a one-two finish by the Red Bull Team.
However, only at the 18th lap of the race Mark Webber slipped off the track. He went off too wide on the circuit that was very slippery firstly because of the newly-laid asphalt layer and secondly because of the heavy rainfall that the venue received
on Sunday morning. The poor move of the driver not only ended his race pointless but also dropped him down to second place in the Drivers’ Championship.
After having reigned the points’ tally for most part of the season he had to settle down at second place now handing over the apex to the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso.
However, the driver believes that still he has bright chances for the title and is adamant to fight up till the very last minute of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last round of the season.
To be continued...
