The teams’ tales after the Korean Grand Prix (Part 8)
Christian Horner, Team Principal
It is sad to see a broth spoiled, after having put in all the perfect ingredients and making it with the best recipe available.
Such was the race for Red Bull team last week, as their team Principal, Christian Horner says, “As a team we'd done everything right today and we had the pace to win. Starting on the front row, we got the strategy right, we read the conditions right and to have an engine failure, almost in sight of the end of the race, is appalling luck.”
One of the team drivers, Mark Webber, had to wrap up his race at the 18th lap after having a slip off the track while the other driver, Sebastian Vettel lost the race at the 45th lap. Vettel was moving ahead for a certain victory when suddenly his engine blew off and he had to pack up the race miserably.
While recalling the events, Horner said that some days are simply unlucky in motor racing world and this was one of those for Red Bull. This had been the first non-points finish for the team since the start of the year, yet the team has not lost hope. They still hold the first position of the Constructors' Title and are only one place adrift the topper in the Drivers' Championship. With two more races yet to go, Red Bull believes that there is still a lot to fight for and their chances are very bright.
Toro Rosso
Jaime Alguersuari
It was good for the driver to have his race finished, as many others were seen only slipping and sliding on the track every now and then. Still, Alguersuari was not very happy at the end of the day. He finished his race at 11th place, just one slot behind points.
Now, as he recalls the race now, he was sad to proclaim that he could have made for 10th place but only missed a good opportunity to score points. The racer had a poor pit stop, which made him lose some seconds due to a technical problem. He went down to pit in ninth place but as he came out he had to continue the race in fifteenth place.
Moreover, his Toro Rosso was not even very competitive and he lacked speed on the long straights where some of the others gained much more. He concluded saying, “It is hard to be competitive when you lack the top speed, because it also means we ran less downforce than others in order to make up for that, so it is harder to manage the tyres in this situation. I just hope we can have a better weekend in Brazil."
Sebastian Buemi
The other team driver faced a worse weekend as he was not able to end his race and had to retire poorly. The driver started off pretty well, and was going on fine despite of the tough slippery surface. He also passed many of the other drivers like Kobayashi and Heidfeld. Leaving behind both the Lotus and Virgin cars he finally reached at the seventh place but then he was not able to keep his race going on.
While talking to the reporters after the race, Buemi told how sad he was for missing a good opportunity to have finished in points. He added that he was really disappointed for his car performed very well and also the team strategy worked brilliantly for him.
The racer concluded telling, “We lost the chance to score some real points today. The accident? I braked late and locked the front wheels, so I could not turn and ended up going straight on and hitting Timo. I am sorry for him."
