The teams that did not make it – Part 5 – ICC World Cup 2011
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 their first win of the tournament though they stuttered at the start. Canada were struggling at 48 runs for 3 wickets after 11-overs, but wicket-keeper captain Ashish Bagai’s
unbeaten 64 run knock along with Jimmy Hansra’s exquisite 70 run innings led their side towards a historic victory.
The 199 run target was achieved in the 46th over at the cost of only five wickets, as the Canadians gave themselves the slimmest of chances for qualifying for the knock-out stages. They looked to continue the momentum from their first win into
the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
Having won the toss for a change the Canadian side chose to field, a decision which went against them, as despite Baidwan’s three wicket haul the Kiwi side went on to score a huge total 358 runs in 50-overs. A target that effectively took away any hopes
the Canadian’s had of playing in the quarter-finals.
Yet it is in adversity that heroes step forward and captain Bagai and Hansra gave their side a remarkable show, as Bagai scored 84 runs and Hansra played well for his 70 run knock as well.
Canada went from a relatively strong position of 175 runs for the loss of four wickets, but no one else stepped up and performed, as their side ended with a very respectable score of 261 runs.
The result signalled the end of any chance the Canadians had to have their name amongst the quarter-finalists, as they turned to their last game in the hopes of salvaging some pride.
Bidding farewell to the ICC World Cup 2011 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore the side from Canada took on the defending champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Batting first after winning the toss, the top-order played some solid cricket and with the help of Hiral Patel’s explosive 54 run stand reached a score of 211 runs. Patel punished the Australian bowlers for three sixes and five fours with a strike rate of
120.00.
The bowling by the Canadians however was just not good enough to trouble the Australians, as they cruised to the 212 run target in 35-overs.
Canada will hope to have learned from their experience in the World Cup and will need to work on all their departments if they hope to give a stronger showing in the next edition of the tournament.

One of the more experienced sides from the African continent, the Kenyans had high hopes of matching their World Cup semi-final finish from not too long ago. They had a difficult road if they wished to achieve it, as their group was not the easiest to qualify
from.
They looked to get off on the front foot with a strong start against New Zealand at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Things went their way, as far as winning the toss was concerned, as Captain Jimmy Kamande elected to bat the first innings.
The decision proved to be a disastrous, as the New Zealand bowling attack tore through the Kenyan batting order ultimately dismissing the entire team for a meagre 69 run total.
