The tennis license?

hello

i was just wondering if there's a tennis related license..

if so, what's the name of it?

my dad has been playing tennis for 10years

and he wants to teach other people.

but he thinks there's a license for it

  1. The short answer is *no* for recreational players.

    Not that I'm suggesting this for your father but there is an organization that provides certification for tennis instructors called the USPTA U.S. Professional Tennis Association. You could consider it a Guild of professional tennis instructors. It's a way of adding credibility for the instructor and the organization offers liability insurance and some other whatnots.


  2. What's he want to do with it?  If he's only doing individual lessons with people on public courts, there's nothing keeping him from simply putting an ad in the paper and starting some lessons.  He could start a summer clinic, as long as he has a legal disclaimer such as the one on this flyer (use it as a template if you like, it's the one my instructor uses for his summer clinics):

    I help out at the summer clinic in that flyer, and I most definitely don't have a license.

    Honestly, I don't even think you necessarily need to have any licensing to be a pro at a club.  To my knowledge, my instructor doesn't have anything like that, and he just started up his own tennis facility with another guy.
