  1. Peristalis- not 100% sure this is correct, it happens in your oseophagus, and my biology teacher told me it happens it your gut as well. But he's not always right so :D


  2. I think the previous posters are probably right and the word you want is 'peristalsis.'  The only other thing I could think of was 'mastication,' which is med-speak for 'chewing' and certainly does mix up the food with enzymes.  

    I can't think of any other term for what you're describing.

  4. Without looking it up, peristalsis is the wave-like movement your alimentary canal makes to move the food. You MAY be looking for something as simple as digestion, depending on how far along you are in science. You may also be looking for "secretion." If there is a more technical word, I do not know of it. Medicine is not my field of expertise.
