  1. I think you're referring to the yellow lines that go from the runway center line to the center line of a taxiway. One of their functions is to differentiate a taxiway from a crossing runway. You don't want to turn onto a runway thinking it's a taxiway. So make sure you have a yellow lead-off line that's taking you to what you think is a taxiway.

  2. In forty years flying never heard the term.

  3. I'm with John B on this one.  In my 30+ years of flying and 9 years as a Control Tower Operator, I never heard the term.

Maybe if your flying with another A/C one may say, "Lead off" meaning you go first..Just a WAG

  4. In our airport we call it a "FOLLOW ME" vehicle where in a first timer to a particular airport is guided as he is instructed to follow that "follow me" vehicle whether to the gate or esp. to a remote aircraft parking bay. I hope this is what you're asking as this is my interpretation of your Q.

  5. what country are you asking about?

If it's the US the term is not commonly used.

The yellow lines and corresponding green lights are referred to as "taxiway centerlines" or "taxi lines" even if they occur on the runway itself.

There is an approach lighting system called LDIN but that has nothing to do with taxiing.

  6. "Taxiway centerline lead-off lights provide visual guidance to persons exiting a runway."  2-1-5 c.

"Pilots shall not exit the landing runway onto another runway unless authorized by ATC."  4-3-20 a.
