The term underrated?

Don't you love it when "What's an underrated song?"-type question goes up and you get people responding, say, "Angie" by the Rolling Stones or "Money" by Pink Floyd. It seems there are people who don't realize the difference between a song they love and a song which is, you know, truly underrated.

An R&P pet peeve of mine. lol

  1. Ya thats the worst. I truly hate it when people who know nothing about music pretend they do.

idiot- "Dude, teenage wasteland is like, my favorite song"

    me- "Baba O Riley"

    idiot- "What?"

me- "The song, its called Baba O Riley"

I actually have friends who think that Stairway is under-rated.  Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is underrated.  Stairway is just, rated.

  2. Hahaha, yes, that's true,I've noticed that, too, that's why I rarely answer these questions when it comes to groups-my knowledge of the unsigned/underground bands of today is non-existent and on the somewhat neglected older ones very limited. But oh well, there's a whole list of misunderstood and improperly used terms, isn't there?

  3. Me what I mean by underrated is something that doesn't get alot of recognition from their fans or doesn't get enough recognition from the radio and album sales

  4. yup, me too... .i just cant stand the "whats a band like paramore?" questions.gosh!its been asked a thousand times!!why even waste your cents, just look it up! or even how people think they know everything about a band from just one song like blur-song 2. people answer and just says its called woo hoo. seriously if your going to answer the question at lease answer it right!

..yea..i have a lot of pet peeves too.

  5. 'Underrated' to me means a song which falls into one of these groups :~

    1) Non-single album tracks, which also didn't really get AOR play

    2) B-sides, which haven't since appeared on any compelations

    3) 'Rarities'... you know, those songs that sneak out on an EP, limited edition or compelation, or little-listened to album...

An example of #1 is my answer to this Q of last week :

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Example of #2 would be songs like :

    'Badges, Posters, Stickers, T-Shirts' ~ Dire Straits {also #3}

    Examples of # 3 would be :

'Maybe It's You' ~ Robert Palmer

'Two Weeks Last Summer' ~ Fotheringay

  6. I Think some songs by CCR are underrated I Think "let the midnight special shine the light on you"  That is a GOOD Song but i forgot all about it cause it`s kinda underrated.

  7. yeah i have to agree..."underrated" means that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves, not that people don't understand its greatness...there's a big difference

  8. Yes you are right. I remember back when I was in my teens. Most of the song's that became my favourites where other songs on the album.

Not that I did not love some of the number 1 hits I did. But over the years I find there are a lot better songs than some of the ones that get all the air play. People have to remember a song back then was picked

to sell. The promoters would decide or have a big say in what song

would be the A or B side. And for the artist it was much harder for to

pick one or two songs to be released on a single. If you really look at the LPs or CDs you have I bet you to do have favourite songs other than the hits and in some cases there may be song's you like better or hit closer to the heart or what ever you may be thinking at what ever

given time it may be. I never hear a question pertaining to what is really

the songs on the LPs or Cds that mean something to you. Here are a few of my underated favourite song's.

When I Was Young by the Animals

As Tears Go By by the Stones

Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles

Far East Man by George Harrison

And The Grey Goose by Paul McCartney

What Ever Get's You Through The Night by John Lennon

Can't You Hear Your Daddy's Heart Beat by the Steve Miller Band

You Shook Me by Led Zeppelin

    Jailhouse Rock by Jeff Beck

Ring of Fire by the Animals

    Gemini by the Animals

    Rollin' and Tumblin' by Cream

Walkin In Your Footsteps by the Police

Limousine Driver by Grand Funk Railroad

Build Me A Woman by the Doors

Long Hot Summer Night by Jimi Hendrix

Anything For My Baby by Kiss

Remember A Day by Pink Floyd

    Motorpsycho Nitemare by Bob Dylan

    Sail Away Sister by Queen

Johnny Come Lately by Steve Earle

You Mak Loving Fun by Fleetwood Mac

I'll Be There For You by Bon Jovi

I've Had Enough by the Who

Hard Loving Man by Deep Purple

    Razor Face by Elton John

    Give Me Love by Santana

A Bit Of Finger/Sleeping Village/Warning by Black Sabbath

I could go on and on. I do love most of the mainstream songs also.

    Here's a small

  9. I know how that is. It'd be greater if they'd list some b-sides or even some songs that weren't released as a single that *ehem* everyone hears on the radio 24/7..
