The top contenders for the EPL’s Golden Boot award
The English Premier League is filled with some of the most quality attackers in the world at the moment. Not only does the league possess well renowned strikers from all over the world, it also serves as a medium for players to grow and turn into superstars.
The league has its fair share of strikers this season who would be competing for the prestigious Golden Boot award. The players who would be favourites to land the award are, Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez, Fernando Torres. However there are some new faces
who would also be looking to take home that prestigious award. Here is a look at the various players from the different teams who could win the award.
Didier Drogba (Chelsea): Didier Drogba is an Ivorian footballer who is currently employed by Chelsea. He was formerly the captain of Ivory Coast and is also the country’s highest goal scorer of all time.
Drogba made his debut when he was eighteen years old with Le Mans. However it wasn’t until the 2003 season when he emerged into the spot light. The player signed for Marseille and scored nineteen goals in his debut season, while helping the team reach the
2004 UEFA Cup final.
Following his breakout season, Drogba was signed by Chelsea for a whopping, twenty four million pounds. This made him the most expensive player to ever come out of the Ivory Coast. Drogba made his impact on the team when he scored the match winning goal
in the 2005 Football League Cup final and in the FA Community Shield. His contributions proved to be the decisive factor in Chelsea winning the Premier League the same season.
However it was the 2006 season that saw Drogba become a house hold name. He scored Ivory Coast’s first ever goal in a World Cup final that year and he was voted to be the African footballer of the year. He finished as the team’s leading goal scorer in the
2006-2007 season. However he scored the winning goals in the Football League Cup final again, only this time he even scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final.
In the 2009-2010 season, Drogba became one of the best strikers in the world. He went onto score twenty nine goals that season and end up as the golden boot winner due to that reason Chelsea went on to win the teams first ever double. He also scored the
match winning goal once again in the 2010 FA Cup final, this made Drogba the only player in English footballs history to score in six English Cup finals.
Over his career Drogba has won the Golden Boot twice, once in the 2007 season and once in the 2010 season. He was also voted to be Chelsea’s player of the year last season.
Drogba has already scored four goals this season and has created most of the goals that the team has scored. He has already proved just how good he is and has promised the fans that they can only expect better from him in the future.
