The top five at the Japanese Grand Prix (Part 1)
Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull was the driver to win the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka after its return last year and before the track was excluded from the Formula 1 calendar, Fernando Alonso won the race in 2006 to clinch his
second world championship. The two drivers hope to repeat their performances at the track as Vettel is aiming for his first title while Alonso is shooting for his third.
After taking a look at what both of these drivers have achieved at Singapore 2 weeks ago, they can be concluded as the favourites for the Japanese Grand Prix as rain showers are expected to hit the track each day.
According to the points table, the title chase will be slightly tougher for Vettel however, despite the aerodynamic excellence of the Red Bull RB6; Mark Webber will not have any hurdle in increasing his current score of 202 points
in order to secure the title for his team this year. It will be interesting to see who gets to the five-win marker for this season at the Japanese grand prix out of Fernando Alonso and the Championship leader Mark Webber. The season is already becoming a spectacle
of randomness therefore; one can expect anything in the coming race at Suzuka.
After gathering more points than the rest of his rivals, Fernando Alonso is more confident than before and he might have a better chance of winning the title this year. “We know there are still four races to go but it seems we can be competitive in any track,
so thanks to the team. Great job at the factory. Great job at the track as well getting 100 per cent of our potential all the time, so let us see in the remaining races. Forza Ferrari”, he said.
When the Spaniard said that his chances were 50-50 before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, it meant that it was really just a yes or no. Either he would win the race or not and it all depended on how things and the race would go.
“In fact, if we are five drivers, we have around a 20 percent chance each of us, maybe Mark a little bit more because he’s in front. I was very bad after Spa in terms of championship points, not any more for the title fight”, he added.
The Spaniard believes that people thought that the 2010 championship has not been as good as the previous ones as the drivers are making silly mistakes. However, Fernando is now in second place after struggling massively just 11
points behind the leader Mark Webber.
“Anything can happen in these four races, any of us can win two or three consecutive races and put you in a very good position or you have one or two retirements and you are completely out of it, you are mathematically out of the
championship”, said the Spaniard.
He believes that Ferrari needs to keep its concentration and focus because the championship is any one’s game now. The championship will depend on how the remaining four races will go. Ferrari will try its best to decrease its
amount of mistakes and expect a high concentration level from the whole team in order to maintain the momentum the team has obtained from the Singapore grand prix.
On the other hand, one of his rivals and the critics favourite, Sebastian Vettel believes that Red Bull has a competitive car for all sorts of tracks and the team will finish on top at Suzuka as well. Red Bull had a great Japanese grand prix last year and Vettel
hopes to repeat his performance this year. However, he is aware that Ferrari has made a huge step forward since the past couple of races so they will also be strong. Red Bull will have to make sure that they get the best out of their package at Suzuka keeping
in mind that McLaren and Ferrari will be giving them a tough time in Japan.
