The top free-throw shooters in NBA history (Part 3)
The list of players who are among the best free-throw shooters in the history of NBA, the sixth player is next in line. Some of the players just have this as an in-born talent, while others make their way into becoming the best by constant hard work and
loads of concentration.
Chauncey Billups of the Denver Nuggets falls at the sixth spot. Billups is one of the clutch shooters in the history of the NBA, and one of the best in the department. The shooting abilities of this extravagant player earned him the title of Mr. Big Shot.
This, according to reports, was mostly due to the successful and splendid free-throw shooting that he had. This player, unlike many others, wasn’t distracted by anything, and most of the successful free throws he made came at the crunching situations of a
game. This effectively turned the face of the game, and eventually the outcome at the end.
One of the turning points in his career that led to him becoming one of the best free-throw shooters was when he was playing for the Timberwolves from 2000 to 2002. Playing alongside another extravagant shooter of the game, Terrell Brandon who threatened
his position, he put the foot on the gas and matched the shooting abilities of Brandon. Both players came under intense pressure from each other, and at the end of the season both players broke the record for being the most successful shooting duo in the NBA,
a record previously held by Ben Wallace and Dale Davis.
According to the player, one of the most spectacular moments in his career was in the 2004 NBA Finals. The finals saw this player come up with extravagant shooting that resulted in the Detroit Piston (his team at the time) defeat the powerhouse Los Angeles
Lakers. This player managed to maintain a shooting percentage of 92.2% that played a key role in the win and also won him the NBA Finals MVP award.
With free-throw shooting percentage of 89.4% and 3863 successful free throws after 4321 attempts, Ray Allen comes in at the fifth spot. One of the spectacular and deadliest players from the free-throw line this current Boston Celtics man will always be remembered
for the smooth and accurate shooting abilities that he had.
This player has become to be known as one of the most difficult players to guard with the fast and quick turns he makes that leave the opposition answerless. The 2008-09 season was the most successful season of his career, when it comes to the best free-throw
statistics season. The splendid was able to break the great Larry Bird’s record for most consecutive free throws (72) during the season, and also came up with peak average of 95.2%. Allen still continues to punish teams, when they start to send him to free-throw
line, committing a foul in hope that he would stop scoring after losing concentration. But the level of concentration and determination takes him to new heights every time. The thing that comes as a shock to many is the fact that this player only gets better,
as he is getting older and gaining more and more experience.
This player’s statistics are constantly improving, and if he continues the form that he is in, then without a doubt in near future this player will be challenging the top players in the business. Recently turned 35, this players is still able to manage huge
minutes and not only that, all these minutes are highly productive, which can be seen from the fact that this player was one of the men who played a big role in the Celtics winning the NBA title in 2008, and making it to the NBA Finals in 2010, where they
lost to the Lakers to his disappointment. Still with the age, he shows no signs of slowing down but becomes even better shooter.
