The top three finalists for the Horse of the Year Eclipse Award are Zenyatta, Blame and Goldikova
The names of the top three finalists for the Eclipse Award 2010 Horse of the Year are out of the box. As was announced Thursday, the competition to be titled Horse of the Year is going to take place between Zenyatta, Blame and Goldikova. But it will not
be till the 17th of January that the world will come to know who the lucky winner is. The Award, along with the awards for divisional winners, will be given in Florida on Miami Beach.
Zenyatta was able to capture a winning streak of 19, losing only to Blame in the Breeder’s Cup Classic. Year 2010 marked the end of her illustrious career. In the event that Zenyatta wins the Horse of the Year Award, it will put a perfect full stop to ‘the
end’. Zenyatta is being nominated a second time for the Horse of the Year.
Alex Waldrop, who is the president and CEO of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, had the following words of praise for Zenyatta: "For our sport and for the Breeders' Cup in particular, she was a transcendent figure whose impact was felt far beyond
her on-track performances, as brilliant as they were.”
In his opinion, Zenyatta was "one of the most memorable thoroughbreds ever to grace the American racing stage. Her record stands on its own merits, as does the impact she had on millions of fans all around the world."
The horse that beat Zenyatta in the Breeder’s Cup Classic, Blame, has similar claims to fame. Apart from that victory, Blame stood runners up in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. The horse was also able to capture the top position in the Grade 1 races during the
summer.
The last remaining contestant is Goldikova. The horse was able to gather only one event, which is the Breeder’s Cup Mile. However, Goldikova was able to achieve significant victories in Europe as a result of which the horse has earned the honor of being
named the Horse of the Year for Europe’s Cartier Award.
All three finalists fought tough competitions in each of their divisions to finally come to the top three. Each horse has its own grand story, but as the saying goes, may the best horse win.
