The trade prospects of Andrew Bynum for the Los Angeles Lakers? – NBA Special (Part 1)
One player who has been making significant headlines, as possibly the most important trade element of the year has been Andrew Bynum, the Los Angeles Lakers centre, who is definitely not ranked amidst the elite superstars of the
game.
Amongst big names such as Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and not to mention Kobe Bryant, it is Bynum who has created quite a stir of late. Although he might not be able to match the likes of Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler
at his position, he is without a doubt amongst the top centres of the game at present.
The 24 year old holds great value for the Los Angeles Lakers, albeit in a very different way. Yes, Bynum has done well for the Lakers so far, but he does not have the quality to lead the Lakers to an NBA Championship.
Currently, the Lakers in are pursuit of players like Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. This is where Bynum comes in.
His value to the Lakers lies in the fact that he can help them attain one of those three big names. As all three of them will be prospective free agents in 2012, Bynum can provide the necessary recompense to those clubs and help
the Lakers land either one of them. This will eventually keep Kobe satisfied as the Lakers will start gunning for another NBA title.
So as ironic as it may sound, Andrew Bynums’ real value for the Lakers lies in his exit from the club. Let me reiterate, Bynum has shown great potential in his early years and might go on to become one of the best centres in the
league, however, his short career has been plagued with injuries which has made him a trade subject for quite some time now.
But we all know that the Lakers are about winning championships. They cannot wait in hope that Bynum will turn into a consistent and injury free asset.
As it currently stands, he is not irreplaceable, as the Lakers already have two big players in Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom. Besides, all three of them played in one team last year and were bulldozed by the Dallas Mavericks.
So the Lakers know that they need someone influential to take control of things along with Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. In fact, Fisher is now 37 and Bryant 33, which means that sooner or later someone else will have to direct
proceedings on the court for the Lakers.
Keeping all this is mind, along with the fact that the Lakers have an option on Bynum for $16.4 million, the situation is heavily tilted in favour of the Los Angeles Lakers. We can examine a few possibilities emerging out of this
scenario, mainly concerning Dwight Howard, Deron Williams and Chris Paul.
