  1. Well for a start anyone who visits the website can vote, not necessarily the locals, so a lot of people who remain unaffected by the proposal can have a say in the final decision.  Another lesser reason could be that its a little impersonal.

    Public consultations with the locals and/or door-to-door surveys are far better, but more expensive and may take longer to organise.  So there you are.  Let me know what marks I get for this.
