The tropical downpour acted as an obstacle in Louis Oosthuizen’s way at the Malaysian Open – Golf News
The tropical downpour on Friday evening proved to be an obstacle in the way of the 2010 British Open winner, Louis Oosthuizen, who was charging towards leading the Maybank Malaysian Open after the second round.
The threat of the lightening forced the tournament officials to suspend the game while 75 players still had to complete their rounds at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Oosthuizen recently suffered a defeat in the Masters Tournament when he missed the par putt on the second extra hole in the playoffs against Bubba Watson.
Before coming to Kuala Lumpur, he said that his defeat will not affect his performance in the tournaments to come. According to him, Watson played really well in the end to snatch the victory from him.
He entered the field with a totally new frame of mind, forgetting what happened in the past. He was moving in the right direction when Mother Nature halted his run for the top position on Friday.
He was just a stroke behind the clubhouse leaders, Jbe Kruger and Otto Hennie, with seven holes to play.
He carded only one birdie on the front nine. However, another birdie on the very first hole of the back nine clearly portrayed his intentions while moving forward in the event.
Meanwhile, Martin Kaymer finished with the day with six birdies and a bogey to surge up the leaderboard. His final score was seven-under par for the two rounds.
"I played similar to yesterday -- I played really good golf, a lot of good tee-shots again. Unfortunately I couldn't drop every putt but I made six birdies today and made only one bogey so I was very solid," Kaymer said.
"I'll probably be a few shots behind after today so I'll approach tomorrow and Sunday a little more aggressively than today and yesterday," he added.
Charl Schwartzel, the overnight leader, looked completely unimpressive following his stunning performance in the opening round.
He gave away three bogeys to slip down the leaderboard at the 12th place through 12 holes. He will be part of those players who will reappear on the course to complete their rounds.
