Question:

The truth about not wearing/wearing glasses or contacts?

I've heard that wearing glasses and contacts makes your eyes lazy which makes them worse, I've heard not wearing them puts stress on your eyes making them worse, and I've heard wearing or not wearing them does not affect your eyesight at all. Which one is it? All of these can not be true, and I want an answer that I can believe, so if there is proof or a reason for credibility in your answer that will be better. Thanks.

  1. There is some truth to both.  It's a double edged sword.  If you are near-sighted and wear your glasses at all distances when you may not need to, may put undo strain on the eye and make vision worse.  Not wearing lenses at all when you should may put undo stress on the eye and make vision worse.  Pretty much, your d*mned if you do and d*mned if you don't.

Sorry there's no clear cut answer.

  2. I wear both.

If you are long - sighted and do not wear glasses/lenses while reading or viewing close-up objects - you put strain on your eyes as you try to focus.

But if you wear them when you don't need them it isn't good.

    Same with short-sighted times glasses.

However I am VERY short - sighted, so wearing no glasses or lenses is not an option for me. I can only see up to 20cm infront of me so I must wear my glasses/lenses all the time before I end up in China or something because my eyesight is so bad.

  3. Artificial corrections(glasses, contacts, and surgery) do not "make" our eyes lazy. In fact most people "respond" to artificial corrections by straining, and squinting, and staring even more. So we tend to respond to artificial corrections by exerting and wasting a lot more energy.

Not wearing artificial corrections does not put stress on our eyes or make them worse. Most people, when they see blurry, stress and strain and squint in an effort to see clearly. This is an incorrect response to blurry vision especially in light of the fact that stress and strain causes our initial blur.

We need to upgrade our vision software for these more complex times. In other words we need to unlearn the incorrect vision habits that give us blur and relearn and reintegrate the correct vision behaviors for perfect vision again.

Artificial corrections only lead us to more and more dependance and strain and tension.

  4. I wear glasses or contact lenses( I have both ) because when I dont vision is blurred.  I have to wear them.

When I'm not reading or writting I do take them off.
