The truth about off shore drilling?

OK. I know how long it will take to see the effects of offshore drilling, but some of you still seem to think it's a good idea. Let's test it.

How much do you think you will save at the pump in

1yr

2yrs

3yrs

4yrs

5yrs

6yrs

7yrs

8yrs

9yrs

10yrs

Now, by the time we see real influence from this process, it will be over 10 years from now.

Sounds like a longer commitment to oil!

Why not be determined to use alternate fuel sources within in the next 10 years.?

If we do this then we are raping our land to save a few pennies for a few years until we start powering vehicles differently.

Is it worth it to rape your country for a few pennies a gallon. Maybe you need to get a 2nd job or sell amway if you need to rape our land to save 2 pennies a gallon.

  1. Just because you say it will be 10 years, I should believe you?  Show some proof to back up your argument.  Why do you think we have seen a decrease in oil prices in the past week or so?  Have you ever heard of the futures market?  If there is expected to be more supply in the future, futures prices will go down today.  It is indisputable that we need to find alternatives, but to make arguments with no substance doesn't help the cause.

Now I should believe you because a journalist says so?  There weren't any quotes from oil experts, only from folks who shared the same bias as the reporter.

  2. for a person who ask soooooo many questions you seem to know alllllll the ansews  yes drilling now  would be  a big mistake

  3. How does anyone know there is no cheap resources of energy?  maybe they don't want you to have cheep fuel, they make so much from oil, why should they give YOU cheaper fuel?  Some say you can run your car on water, but are our governments interested, one man is said to have harnest the power of atom molecules, he died mysteriously from a suden heart attack.  Makes you wonder.

  4. Drilling will bring us more oil...simple and fact

Now the real question is "Is more oil the solution to this problem?"

I say no..another dose of crack is not how to get off of crack.

Take into account there is 65 million acres leased for drilling, but this will open up more land...there is NOTHING that i can find saying the oil drillers will give back some of the land they already have...seems pretty fishy to me...if it isn't worth it then give it up.

Anyway that was a stray thought..but I have seen that humanity will literally stand still for the vaguest hint that there might be a microscopic drop of oil somewhere...getting us another 60 million barrels will do nothing to change situation, and WILL make us delay our change to a new energy source because if we are all honest to ourselves even if to no one else...we knew this gravy train was gonna end since the 70s and did we do anything in those 30 years?

    No

we just sucked it all up

Why would now be any different?  Answer is it will not...we will just procrastinate again and be up sh*t's creek again later.

For our pride if not the concern for your kids welfare, we should do the swap now and be ahead of everyone instead of way behind.

FYI for all those who are not aware...US has the biggest supply of coal in the world...and right now we have technology actually built and working that can convert coal into methane and screens the emissions so it is clean, puts CO2 into underground stone carbon sinks just like nature and even makes fertilizer and other products....anything that burns oil..can burn methane and any conversion needed is very easy...if we put this into effect along with tidal, geo-thermal energy then all the oil we produce could be used for vehicles until we come up with alternative...this is all stuff up and working now that could be swung over too in a very short time.

So solutions are kinda literally right on our nose...we are just staring at oil with such dreamy eyes that we see nothing else

  5. There is no way to convert our economy to alternate fuels in 10 years. Way too short a time frame. And it isn't just about lower prices at the gas pump. It's about producing more of our oil we use domestically, so we aren't held hostage by unstable events in the middle east making oil prices fluctuate wildly. If we could couple that with alternate fuels (not corn based ethanol, however) more solar and wind power, and  smaller cars instead of giant hulking gas guzzling Hummer's, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil. We'd be that much more ahead of the game right now if oil companies could have been drilling in areas that were made off limits 15 years ago. Funny how fast time flies by, isn't it? That offshore and ANWR oil could have been in the pipeline now.

  6. See you call it Raping , others call it using resources.

Your whole argument is based on an environmental based philosophy. Which is not the only philosopical point of view

Of course I know they are non-renewable. But using your "logic" , why would I pay $100 dollars for that food when I could pay $50. There is NOT 1 renewable resource at the moment that is anywhere as cheap as using oil. How about we use Logic and do it all! Drill for more oil , and in 5-10 years when renewables are more economically viable then we use them also.

One can only think Logically about this issue IF you don't have an enviromentalist agenda
