Question:

The type R?

amp is alpine mrd m1005

1000w @ 2 ohm

500w @ 4 ohm

have two type rs

cant safely run them both because ones dual 2 and the other dual 4 (dammit)

first i tried the dual 4 in series which seemed to be the safest way but undoubtedly underpowering the type r

then i took a chance and went for the 1000 watt at 2 ohms(i forget if its the dual 2 in series or dual 4 in series i always have to look it up)

anyways it worked fine for a couple months till lately the amp started going into protect mode and the sub could be smelled....i know this is overpowering the sub but ive never seen a type r blow from a couple hundred watts over...

so now i have the dual 2 in series for a 4 ohm load right?

is this the best choice considering i cant run them both? is it the safest option? im not prepared to spend another 200 bucks for another sub at the moment....

i suspected its either the summer heat increasing or my alternators dying

  1. You can run both give me a sec to do up a wiring diagram for you. Ok here you go wire your 2ohm like this one http://www.crutchfield.com/learningcente...

And wire your 4ohm like this http://www.crutchfield.com/learningcente...

After you do that take both positives from both subs and run them both to the positve on the amp.  same for the negative. so the total load on the amp would be  2.6  which is as close to 2ohms you will get and they should pound. you should be fine as of wattage it will be somewhere around 800 if the amp isn't overrated or underated. You should haave a 1 year warranty with the subs if baught new also. and for the smelling you wired something up wrong because i would figure being dvc the should take 1000 to 1200 watts if wired correctly. I have 2 jl w3's in one car that is only rated for 600 watts and max is 800 pushing 1400 watts to them and they've been like that for o 7 months. o and if you are getting dimming lights google the big 3 for amps. Which is changing all your wires to bigger on the battery to altinator and ground. Then look in to a 1.5 frad capacitor. It will help the subs hit harder when the bass is hitting on after another or come to a big bass hit. It will also help with diming a lil bit not alot but will help.
