There is a certain type of a race horse that can run or walk in such a way that its front leg and the hind leg on each side is parallel, so that the front hoof and the hind hoof never hit against each other. What is the technical name for such a horse?

  1. A pacer.

  2. It is a standard bred and the gait is a trot.

Greyt-mom - thanks for the link.  The site I was on gave incorrect info, and it was a racing site at that.  I can never remember, even though I bet them.

  3. I believe that is a standardbred horse. They are harness racers. Some Icelandic horses can do the flying pace.Standardbred horses are called pacers.

  4. I think you are talking about a pacer. Standardbred horses race in harness pulling a sulky. Most are trotters but some are pacers. A pacer has a gait where the front and back leg on one side move forward together and then the legs on the other side move forward together.

  5. check with offthehoof.com for more information

  6. That is one of gaits of a standardbred, called a pace.  Trotting is the other gait that standardbreds compete under, it involves moving legs on a diagonal (front left and back right together, front right and back left together).  The US Trotting Association has diagrams comparing the two gates at http://www.ustrotting.com/usta/newcomers...
