The ugly that the sport carries

“Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane and must end”, this stance is being put forward by many of those who do not support this particular racing sport anymore.
According to the statistics compiled into the reports by many different research agencies indicate that is not feasible from any perspective, it is not profitable anymore, the revenues are not generous at all, the attendance on the tracks has reduced drastically
and those who do visit the tracks are far more interested in the poker betting rather than the hounds.
The reverse trend for the greyhound racing industry started spurted quite very drastically in 2004 as the reports also started reflecting the cruelty and inhumanity that the hounds faced at the hands of their owners, breeders and trainers as for them the
only significant element is related to the money that they can make through racing.
Hounds’ speed and performance at the track is what matters the most to them without ever considering the brutality that they inflict on the miserable dogs.
Keeping on with greyhound racing is even injustice for the track operators who can utilize the resource for generating revenue from betting elsewhere. Some of the bills that have been passed in past propose that the tracks that find it difficult to survive
in such crucial economic situation can at least resort to other betting options and it is not that the authorities want to halt greyhound racing altogether through the bills that they pass. It is for seeking alternatives that can still let the tracks remain
operative.
Besides being unprofitable and unjust to the hounds that they are racing, the sports involved in gambling are often also accused of underage gambling, improper use of alcohol ranging to an extent of irresponsible marketing and advertising. Gambling by many
is viewed as an escape from depression as it provides temporary distraction from it even though it still persists at the back of a person’s mind. There have been efforts towards customer education and awareness to training the breeders and owners about the
significance of providing at least reasonable facilities for their hounds but then again it requires more investment in an already failing and fading venture.
"It's a dying industry in this state”, said Sen, who sponsored the Senate version of the bill.
The trainers though adamant on not quitting on racing do realize that there has to be a sensible balance struck between the ratio related to the races held at the track with the other betting activities.
"We'd like to change it [from a specific number of sessions] to let the market decide," he said. "We know there's some demand for it, but not as much as we're running”.
Many have also proposed tax reduction because stopping the sport all of a sudden does not seem to be the easiest way round for many tracks so for the temporary survival sake this is one of the measures put forth.
Clash of mutual interest has not rested this issue at rest since quite a long time as the tracks operators want to stay away from losing money and profit while the animal interest groups are inclined towards securing the welfare of the hounds.
Many also compare it to the horse racing industry but then that industry has not trodden down as much as the greyhound racing. It will not be true to state that there no issues in that industry at all but they are not as grave as running out of business.
