It is a documented fact that in 75% of gynaecological operations, usually in teaching hospitals, groups of up to half a dozen or more medical students are lined up to vaginally examine the unconscious patient and that in only 25% of cases is prior consent for this obtained.

  1. I don't feel like this is right at all. I think it is a total violation. If the patient agrees, that is one thing, but if they are unaware or declined, well, that is horrible, and I assume punishable by law?

  2. Here in the USA you can ask for the consent form and refuse to allow students in the operating room. I work in the operating room for several years and asking for consent is a regular procedure. It is the patient's right and its the law. So if they don't give you the paper, you ask for it.

  3. that's what teaching hospitals are for.

how do you expect your or any doctor to know what to do and how to do it if he/she didn't have anyone to 'practice' on?
