The value of a 40 carat natural solid semi black opal

it has great brilliant colour play with flashes of pink, green, blue and purple, and in the light, some orange.

what do you think the value of this opal would be

the flashes are very bright and are not dull. i think it comes from the andamooka mines in australia but i am not so sure.

  1. There is absolutely no way anyone can give you an even approximate value on your stone form a description and without examining it. You give no photograph either. There are so many variables to be taken into consideration when valuing any gemstone and more with opal than just about anything else, including if it has been treated in any way (a lot of black material is).

    I have been a professional gemmologist for over 40 years and my serious advice to you is to take it to a reliable jeweller's or look up a gem testing laboratory in the Yellow Pages and get an expert to look at it. Any advice you get on Yahoo Answers will be, at very best, a wild guess.
