I have a 3 1/2 year old son, and a daughter who is 14 months old. Right before my son turned 3 years old, he started saying some very strange off the wall things. Had a very vivid imagination. He became a totally different child, more like a kid. He would talk in big sentences, and communicate well using bigger words. Pretty much over night it seemed. I still thought of him like a baby because this happened so fast! I never really comprehended that he indeed understood me and was able to communicate. The problem we are having now is getting him to not understand so much, if that makes sense? He is very attentive..and literal. Around the age of three, I had a little talk with him about strangers and his privates. Only because we had been going to the park alot, and my son is a very friendly little boy. Talking to anyone. I had to teach him about safety and strangers..and of course everything else. This was very important to me. But now he has too much awareness for his age.

  1. I would suggest staying on the same path you originally started on. Being only 3 he's still trying to learn and figure these things out. I wouldn't worry too much about what other people say. If you don't talk to him about these things, who will? I think it's also a good idea to have those communication lines open with your children as most parents don't. I'm sure after awhile it won't be the hot topic and he'll move on to something else, hopefully less embarrassing, lol.
