The volume on my labtop doesn't work

Question

The volume is turned all the way up. I went to device manager and it says everything is okay. I don't use speakers, so there is nothing to be plugged in. My volume comes from the sides. I tried playing music or videos on my computer and it plays, just with no sound.

(Assuming you are using some version of windows since you didn't say 'macbook')

Start by going down next to your clock, and click on the speaker icon to see if the system sound is turned down or muted.  If that looks good, then go into 'start', 'control panel', 'device manager', 'system', and click on the 'hardware tab'.

Click on 'device manager' and go down to 'sound,video and game controlers' to see if your sound card is installed and functioning correctly.  If not, you might need to download some updated drivers, or the card may have eaten itself (and if it is built into the mainboard you might have to get yourself a card - assuming you have a slot to put it into).
