The volume on my laptop is not working...

on youtube, itunes or yahoo my volume is not working the computer is a compaq laptop so does anybody what I could do to even try to get it back thz

is the OS  Vista or XP? for XP, you could try this, right click My computer>properties>hardware(tab)>device manager. look for 'sound video and game controllers' or something similar. see if it has a yellow exclamation mark indicating a problem. double click and select troubleshoot to find a solution. the troubleshooter should be able to diagnose and figure out a solution.
