The waiting period for ASP 1-Star SeaHawaii Women’s Pro at Pipeline is on – Surfing News
The waiting period for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s 1-Star SeaHawaii Women’s Pro at Pipeline begun on March 1.
Banzai Pipeline is considered to be one of the most challenging and exciting surfing spots in the world, testing the skills and experience of even the best in the sport.
Looking to promote female surfing, the City and Country of Honolulu granted SeaHawaii a permit to hold a surfing event in Oahu to give the female surfers an opportunity to showcase their talent and get their skills acknowledged. The event also offered the
young guns a chance to earn coveted ASP rating points that would eventually help them in their pursuit of a spot in the ASP Women’s World Tour, which is considered to be a dream of every female surfer.
The SeaHawaii Women’s Pro at Pipeline began with an opening ceremony hosted by Surfer The Bar at Turtle Bay Resort on Wednesday, February 29. The night featured an autograph signing, followed by opening prayers, a Talk Story series, before eventually moving
on a the San Lorenzo Fashion Bikini show.
The exciting opening night served to set up the stage for what was expected to be a thrilling week ahead as the surfers were ready to take each other on in short-boarding contest that was scheduled to run from March 1-9, followed by the body-boarding division
that was due to finish on March 15.
Some of the best short-board and body-boarding talent will be at hand during the event, looking to tame the Pipeline.
Contest director Betty Depolito is expecting a swell to reach the North Shore this weekend, which may allow the contest to get underway.
“We are taking a good look at this first swell in the waiting period because there are a lot of trade-winds that appear to be on the frontal system as well as swells coming into the Northeast, which are not favourable for Pipeline.”
The organiser of the event, SeaHawaii, is a locally owned and operated company in Oahu, which is focused on preserving the oceans by highlighting the sensitivity of the ecological and environmental changes that are harming them.
